Coinage 2012/I BU Suomenlinna
The Suomenlinna coin set is one of the most impressive souvenirs of the year. Order a coin set of your own from the Mint of Finland's online Outlet Store.

For a traveller one of the best souvenirs of the year is Suomenlinna coin set, which is the seventh coin set to be issued in the "Finnish Lighthouses" series. The coin set include one of each of the Finnish metallic circulation coins from one cent to two euros.

A much-needed bright light was shone to mark the paths of seafarers and airmen operating in and around Helsinki in 1929 when a lighthouse was built on Suomenlinna, the sea fortress that has been protecting the capital since 1748.

The sea fortress landmark, the towering Alexander Nevsky Church was given a Finnish overhaul and the roof was adapted to fit a combined sea and air lighthouse.

The lighthouse on the church tower continues to serve air and sea traffic by signalling four flashes of light to spell the letter H in Morse code to signify Helsinki.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit the base of the lighthouse as Suomenlinna is one of Finland's most popular tourist sites.

Suomenlinna's very own coin set includes all of the Finnish metal circulation coins for 2012. The coin set also contains a commemorative Suomenlinna mint medal, which is the seventh commemorative medal in the "Finnish Lighthouses" series.
