The family adventure animation Niko & The Way to the Stars is the story of reindeer boy, Niko, who believes that his father is one of the heroes in Father Christmas's world-famous fleet of flying reindeer. However, he has never met his idolised father. Niko dreams of flying despite the fact that he suffers from vertigo.

As Niko returns from his own secret flight practice, he accidentally leads the feared Black Wolf to his own herd. Feeling guilty, Niko leaves his herd, his mother and his girlfriend to find his father and become a hero like him.

On his dangerous trip through the northern wilderness, Niko is helped by the elderly, clumsy flying squirrel Julius who has taken care of the boy all his life. They find out that the wolves intend to celebrate Christmas by eating the fleet of flying reindeer.

Aided by the wild weasel girl Wilma, Niko and Julius find their way to the mountain where Father Christmas lives and try to save the flying reindeer from the wolves. But the final battle takes place in the reindeer boy's heart as he at last meets his father and must come to terms with what being a hero truly means.
