Savonia's very own collector euro. Order a beautiful memento of Savonia for yourself or as a gift!

In Finland, Savonians are known as friendly folk, easily recognised by their native Finnish dialect and sense of humour.

The Savonian provincial coin depicts slash and burn, a type of agriculture used in the province to earn a living in the early Modern Age.

Beautiful and pure Savonia

Savonia has been inhabited since the end of the Ice Age. Savonia's remaining Neolithic cave paintings remind us of its long history.

Today, there are at least 400,000 inhabitants in the province. Over the course of history, the Savonians developed a distinctive dialect of Finnish that distinguishes them from Finns native to other provinces. Savonia’s natural landscapes are part of Finland's pure and beautiful Lake Country.

The Farmer's Coin

The Savonia coin depicts the Savonian slash and burn tradition. In early modern times, Savonian agriculture was entirely based on slash and burn cultivation. Slash and burn involved burning wood to fertilise the cultivation of rye.

This cultivation also allowed farmers to eliminate damaging weeds. Farmers practiced slash and burn together in groups formed by several families.
