Mint of Finland Ltd. issued a collector coin for Peace and Security. At the publication event, President Martti Ahtisaari carried out the first strike for the new coin to be produced. The collector coin is the first member of the new coin set ”Ethical Collector Coins”. In addition, this is the first time in the history of Finland when a silver collector coin with a nominal value of 20 euros is issued.

The Collector Coin committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the designing of the silver collector coin, and received 15 proposals by the set deadline. The competition was won by sculptor Reijo Paavilainen with his proposal “Lauraeus psalmista 45:5” (Lauraeus on psalm 45:5).

The competition was carried out in two phases with the focus more on the views and message than the technical skill.
