This year, Mint of Finland celebrates design, leading the way to the future with the rest of Finland. The company commemorates the year by launching new gift packages for its collector coins and representing Finland in Berlin with a highly visual exhibition created by Finland's top designers – not to mention the company stands to receive international recognition for its coin design.
The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design selected Helsinki as the 2012 World Design Capital.
Mint of Finland applauds this recognition Finnish design has received. The company's participation in the design year is sure to delight any coin lover with an eye for beauty.
No better gift
On 3 February 2012, Mint of Finland launched two new collector coins: World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 and Henrik Wigström and European Artists. These coins are the first to be offered in Mint of Finland's new gift packages.
"The new gift packaging brings the true meaning of our new coins even closer to the coin enthusiast. The stylish, environmentally friendly packaging draws attention to the collector coin and its motif. I believe that our gift packages will find their way to those looking for a beautiful gift", says Henna Karjalalainen, Communications Director at Mint of Finland.
All the essential details of the coin are printed on the packaging. A beautiful ribbon completes the stylish look. The packaging was designed by Kalle Järvenpää, the main designer of Prototyp Köln. A long-time partner to Mint of Finland, the design think tank also participates in the WDC Helsinki 2012 project with its design gallery Köln im Studio.
On the tip of the iceberg
From 3 to 5 February, Mint of Finland represented Finland at the World Money Fair in Berlin. The company's exhibition was designed by two top Finnish interior design architects, Viivi Laine and Tiia Tilus. Additionally, Laine will represent Prototyp Köln throughout the fair.
"Our exhibition displays Mint of Finland's goals and standing in the world of collector coins. "We have a fresh view of the future from the top of our iceberg," Karjalainen says.
Mint of Finland's collector coins stand to receive international recognition in Berlin, as the American publishing house Krause Publications presented the company's coin Children and Creativity with the acknowledgement "Most inspirational coin of the year".
