Latest addition to the Ethical collector coins set
A symbol of equality and tolerance
Mint of Finland and the Ministry of Finance are planning to release in the spring a collector coin for equality and tolerance. The nominal value of the coin is EUR 20. The jury selected a piece by art student Katri Piri as the theme of the coin. As experts on the theme, the jury consulted the Ombudsman for Equality Pirkko Mäkinen as well as Frank Johansson, director of Amnesty International – Finnish Section. Read more

In memory of Fabergé’s Finnish workmaster
A collector coin to honour the skills of the Finnish goldsmith
In spring of 2012, Mint of Finland and the Ministry of Finance are planning to issue a collector coin commemorating the skills of Finnish master goldsmiths. Henrik Wigström (1862–1923) is a worthy representative, and the coin would feature two imperial Easter eggs linked to the name of this great artisan. It would be the first time the Finnish state has recognized a goldsmith. Read more

A coin for the Finnish national readership
On 11 September, Mint of Finland will issue the silver Juhani Aho and Finnish Literature commemorative coin. Juhani Aho was the first professional Finnish author. The commemorative coin is in honour of all friends of Finnish literature. A public edition of the coin has been minted as an uncirculated BU-quality coin, as it uniquely has a silver content of Ag500. Read more

After the decision of the Finnish Ministry of Finance and the European Commission, the 2011 two-euro commemorative coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Bank of Finland. Finnish coin manufacturer strengthens its position in the world market
Mint of Finland Ltd, which produces metallic circulation and collector coins, has bought the entire share capital of the German coin-blank manufacturer Saxonia EuroCoin GmbH from DNick Holding plc, which is the manufacturer of nickel and nickel alloys listed on the unofficial registered market in Germany. The deal has established the strongest coin manufacturer in the Eurozone. Since the deal took place, the budgeted turnover for Mint of Finland Group in 2011 is EUR over 120 million. Read more

Our concern regarding the eutrophication of the Baltic Sea will inspire young artists this spring. Mint of Finland will be presenting its 2011 Purple Programme on 28.1.2010 at the Berlin World Money Fair from 10.30 – 14.00 in the Estrel Media Forum. The Kaj Franck and Industrial Art collector coin and the Pehr Kalm collector coin will both be launched at Mint of Finland’s stand on 28.1 at 14.30. The World Money Fair this year celebrates its 40th year and Mint of Finland has participated in nearly 20 of those events. Read more

The Hella Wuolijoki collector coin design competition has been won by the architect Petri Neuvonen with his design ‘The roots of the tales’
In 2011 it will be 125 years since the birth of Hella Wuolijoki. To commemorate this, a silver 10 euro collector coin will be minted. The Collector Coin Committee issued an invitation to compete for the design of the coin and seven entries arrived by the deadline. The winning entry came from the architect Petri Neuvonen and was entitled ‘The roots of the tales’ (Tarinoiden juuret). The prize committee praised his work for its balance and its multidimensional nature, noting that it was aesthetically laid out and that it presents a clear image of the strong character it represents. Study: Girls have a More Practical Attitude towards Money than Boys
There is a clear difference between girls’ and boys’ view on what money is used for. Girls have a more practical approach to money, whereas boys often regard money as a way to become rich. This is revealed by a study mapping the views of 6- to 12-year-olds on money and the circulation of money as well as the way in which children spend their money. A Journey into the Production of Money
Mint of Finland will open an exhibition on the production of money on 20th October in cooperation with the Finnish Science Centre Heureka. About a Coin exhibition will be opened as part of Heureka’s main exhibition in commemoration of Mint of Finland’s 150th anniversary. First collector coin in honour of folk music
Konsta Jylhä collector coin announced at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival
The Konsta Jylhä and folk music collector coin was announced at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival where the master composer’s centenary is very much in evidence. Exceptionally Mint of Finland permitted the release of 2,000 of the brilliant uncirculated (BU) coins in Kaustinen. In addition to this, the Mint’s Managing Director Paul Gustafson presented proof coins to Provincial Councillor Viljo S. Määttälä and to Conductor Juha Kangas at the end of the Kansansoittajien kuningas (King of the Folk Musicians) concert. Read more

The Ministry of Finance has decided to issue a coin set with the theme of the historical provinces of Finland. There are nine historical provinces: Åland, Tavastia, Karelia, Lapland, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta, Savo, Uusimaa and Finland Proper. The two first coins will be issued in 2010. The provinces will be Finland Proper and Satakunta, respectively. Read more
