A collector coin with the theme Peace and Security is realised on the basis of Tapio Kettunen’s proposal ”Cease fire, pigeons in the porthole”.

The Collector Coin committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the designing of the collector coin, and received a record-braking 72 proposals. The competition was carried out in two phases with the focus more on the views and message than the technical skill. The competitors were encouraged to look for new solutions and effects (form, colour, hole, other materials).

Today the Mint of Finland issues a golden Finnish Currency 150 Years commemorative coin. The coin will be handed over to Minister of Finance Jyrki Katainen and Bank of Finland Governor Erkki Liikanen at the Mint of Finland’s jubilee seminar. This coin is the first commemorative euro coin that is made of Finnish gold. The issuing of the commemorative coin is a part of the Mint of Finland's jubilee year, during which the company celebrates the 150-year-old Finnish currency and its own 150-year-old path.

April this year marks the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Mint of Finland.
