International Protection for the Baltic Sea
The Symbol of the Baltic Sea to be Designed by Secondary School Students
Our concern regarding the eutrophication of the Baltic Sea will inspire young artists this spring. Secondary school students from the Baltic Sea region will design the ethical commemorative coin for 2011. Its theme is the protection of the Baltic Sea. The contest began on 25 March 2011 and will end on 3 June 2011. Read more

Women Deserve a Commemorative Coin of Their Own
Today, equality and Finnish women were given all due respect at the launch of the Hella Wuolijoki and Equality commemorative coin. Mint of Finland gave the commemorative coin to the Minister of Equality Stefan Wallin, to Hella Wuolijoki's grandson, MP Erkki Tuomioja and to film director Juha Wuolijoki. Read more

Collector Coins to be Attractively Displayed in a Designer Box
A commemorative coin displayed in the Vitriini glass box is the latest trend in designer homes. Designed by glass artist Anu Penttinen, the Vitriini box turns commemorative coins into stylish decoration items. Mint of Finland will release all collector coins to be issued in 2011 in Iittala's bright glass packaging. Read more

The Swan is the Theme of the New Gold Coin
The Bank of Finland commemorative coin to be issued in May is an emblem of Finnish culture and patriotism. The Bank of Finland coin will be given an appropriately dignified look with artist Hannu Veijalainen's “Siivet kantaa” (Spread Wings) design whose symbolism hails back to the golden age of Finnish art. Finland’s greats start off the new season
The Mint of Finland honours the greatest Finns of their time
The Mint of Finland has the honour to announce the first commemorative coins of the year in memory of two great Finns. In doing so, it also pays homage to Finnish design and science. Master of Finnish design Kaj Franck and the most famous Finnish representative of the enlightenment, Pehr Kalm, will both be honoured with commemorative coins on 28 January 2011. Read more

Welcome to Mint of Finland’s coin issue event in Berlin 28.1.2011
Mint of Finland will be presenting its 2011 Purple Programme on 28.1.2010 at the Berlin World Money Fair from 10.30 – 14.00 in the Estrel Media Forum. The Kaj Franck and Industrial Art collector coin and the Pehr Kalm collector coin will both be launched at Mint of Finland’s stand on 28.1 at 14.30. The World Money Fair this year celebrates its 40th year and Mint of Finland has participated in nearly 20 of those events. Read more
Announcement from the Collector Coin Committee
The Hella Wuolijoki collector coin design competition has been won by the architect Petri Neuvonen with his design ‘The roots of the tales’
In 2011 it will be 125 years since the birth of Hella Wuolijoki. To commemorate this, a silver 10 euro collector coin will be minted. The Collector Coin Committee issued an invitation to compete for the design of the coin and seven entries arrived by the deadline. The winning entry came from the architect Petri Neuvonen and was entitled ‘The roots of the tales’ (Tarinoiden juuret). The prize committee praised his work for its balance and its multidimensional nature, noting that it was aesthetically laid out and that it presents a clear image of the strong character it represents. Vote for the most beautiful commemorative coin in the world
US publishers Krause Publications is polling its readership to find the most innovative, creative, beautiful and popular commemorative coin in the world’s most prestigious numismatic competition. The public can pick its favourite from among 15 commemorative coins issued during 2009. The ‘People’s Choice’ vote is one of eleven categories in this famous numismatic competition. One of the coins is the Peace and Security commemorative coin which was the first of the Mint of Finland’s Ethical Coins series and which earlier this year won in the category ‘Best Crown’.
