Mint of Finland to present a New Mint Mark for Coins in 2011
A Finnish Lion for Finnish Circulation Coins
Finnish circulation coins will undergo a transformation next year when the Mint of Finland’s company mark for coins changes. The old cornucopia will be replaced by the Mint of Finland’s Lion logo. Mints traditionally issue coins with their own logo. Read more
Dates of issue postponed
Changes to the Dates of Issue of Mint of Finland’s Products
The issue of the €2 special “Finnish currency 150 years” coin has been postponed. The special coin can be ordered on our website starting on 15 November. The dates of issue of the Proof coin series 2010 and the BU coin series 2010/II “The Diversity of nature” have also been postponed as they contain the €2 special coin. Study: Girls have a More Practical Attitude towards Money than Boys
There is a clear difference between girls’ and boys’ view on what money is used for. Girls have a more practical approach to money, whereas boys often regard money as a way to become rich. This is revealed by a study mapping the views of 6- to 12-year-olds on money and the circulation of money as well as the way in which children spend their money. The study was commissioned by Mint of Finland Ltd. Read more
Children and creativity commemorative coin unveiled at Heureka
Creativity is the theme of a new ethical commemorative coin
The Children and Creativity commemorative coin was unveiled on October 20th a the opening of About a Coin exposition held in Heureka (The Finnish Science Centre). The commemorative coin is part of Mint of Finland’s Ethical commemorative coins coin set and is an expression of the importance of creativity in our everyday lives. The Children and Creativity commemorative coin is the first commemorative coin for which the subject was chosen by the public. Read more
About a Coin exhibition will be opened at Heureka on 20th October
A Journey into the Production of Money
Mint of Finland will open an exhibition on the production of money on 20th October in cooperation with the Finnish Science Centre Heureka. About a Coin exhibition will be opened as part of Heureka’s main exhibition in commemoration of Mint of Finland’s 150th anniversary. At the exhibition, visitors can mint a coin with their own portrait and learn how to identify authentic euro coins. Read more
A Reminder from Mint of Finland in the Jubilee Year of Kaj Franck

Mint of Finland takes part in the events of the jubilee year by issuing the Kaj Franck and Industrial Art collector coin. The design-themed collector coins remind us that coins, often designed by sculptors, are designer items as well. The Kaj Franck and Industrial Art collector coin is the first purely design-themed coin. Mint of Finland has previously issued architecture-related collector coins in commemoration of Alvar Aalto (1998) and Eero Saarinen (2010). Read more

Mint of Finland will launch a coin series for the Finnish provinces. The first coin to be launched will be the Finland Proper coin. The Finland Proper coin will be launched at the Turku marketplace on October 2nd at 11 a.m. The Mint of Finland stand will open at the market at 7 a.m. The Finland Proper coin can be purchased in advance at the launch, since the coin will be officially sold from October 15 onwards. The first circulation coin with a lion emblem
Mint of Finland releases a €2 special coin on October 29.
Mint of Finland will mint the 2010 special euro coin in commemoration of 150 years of Finnish currency. The €2 special coin will be the first circulation coin with the Mint of Finland's new lion emblem. The national obverse side of the special euro coin, designed by Reijo Paavilainen, has common features with the Finnish Currency 150 Years commemorative coin. Read more

Filigree coin has aroused interest
Mint of Finland issues a coin which incorporates hand-crafted filigree on October 15. October. Mint of Finland presented the Cabbage Rabbit Filigree coin in American Numismatic Association’s conference in Boston on August 11. The Filigree coin aroused plenty of interest in the conference. The Filigree technique has never been used in coin minting before. Read more

First collector coin in honour of folk music
Konsta Jylhä collector coin announced at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival
The Konsta Jylhä and folk music collector coin was announced at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival where the master composer’s centenary is very much in evidence. Exceptionally Mint of Finland permitted the release of 2,000 of the brilliant uncirculated (BU) coins in Kaustinen. In addition to this, the Mint’s Managing Director Paul Gustafson presented proof coins to Provincial Councillor Viljo S. Määttälä and to Conductor Juha Kangas at the end of the Kansansoittajien kuningas (King of the Folk Musicians) concert. Read more

Over 1,000 visitors to Mint of Finland’s website voted for Roope Määttä’s design, Taivaanrannan tuolla puolen (Over the Horizon) to help choose the theme of the Children and Creativity collector coin, to be launched on October 20. Määttä is an art student at the Kajaani Upper Secondary School. Severi Heikkilä from the children’s movie Ricky Rapper and the Bicycle Thief officially supervised the voters’ raffle. Read more

Sculptor Nora Tapper won the design competition for 5 euro province coins
The Ministry of Finance has decided to issue a coin set with the theme of the historical provinces of Finland. There are nine historical provinces: Åland, Tavastia, Karelia, Lapland, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta, Savo, Uusimaa and Finland Proper. The two first coins will be issued in 2010. The provinces will be Finland Proper and Satakunta, respectively. Read more

The First Finnish Gold Euro is the most beautiful gold coin of all times
An expert on Finnish gold: gold continues to fascinate
Visitors to Mint of Finland’s website voted the First Finnish Gold Euro as the most beautiful gold coin of all times. Approximately a thousand visitors to the website participated in the vote. 200 years of the Diet of Porvoo gold coin was raffled among the participants. The raffle was officially supervised by Seppo J. Partanen, honorary member of the Gold Prospectors’ Association of Finland and expert on Finnish gold. Read more

The design competition for the collector coin “Konsta Jylhä and folk music” was won by Reijo Paavilainen’s proposal “Pirta” (Weaving)
The musician and composer of folk music Konsta Jylhä was born one hundred years ago. In celebration of this anniversary year, a 10 euro silver collector coin is published. The Collector Coin committee set by the Finnish Ministry of Finance arranged a public competition for the designing of the silver collector coin, and received 10 proposals by the set deadline.
