In 2017, Finland will release a special two-euro coin celebrating the country's cen-tenary of independence. Mint of Finland has also submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Finance for a special coin paying tribute to Finnish nature, to be released in the au-tumn of 2017. The special coins are a part of the centenary programme of Finland’s independence.

On 3 January 2017, Finland will release gold and silver collector coins to celebrate its first century of independence. 8 November 2016 Mint of Finland has won a tendering process in Bolivia

Mint of Finland will start manufacturing circulation coins for the Central Bank of Bolivia

Mint of Finland and the Central Bank of Bolivia have reached a two year agreement for the manufacturing of Bs5 denomination circulation coins. The contract concerns the production and delivery of 88 Million pieces, and the deliveries will occur in 2017 and 2018. The Central Bank of Bolivia is a new customer to Mint of Finland.

New special two-euro coin released

Today, Finland has released one million commemorative two-euro coins paying tribute to philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright. The year 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of von Wright. Mint of Finland will mint the special coins by order of the Ministry of Finance.

The European Commission's Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs is organising a competition to select the design

In June 2015 it will have been 30 years since the European Council adopted the European Flag as its official emblem and 60 years since its adoption by the Council of Europe. To celebrate this, all 19 euro-area Member States will issue a commemorative circulation coin in the second half of 2015, bearing a common design on the national side.

The collector coin of Uusimaa will be released on 20 April as part of the coin series paying tribute to the emblematic animals of Finland's provinces. A year of restructuring at Mint of Finland

The year 2013 was challenging for Mint of Finland. The weak world market and excess capacity in the circulation coin business undermined the company’s financial performance; Group revenue decreased to EUR 97.3 million (2012: EUR 118.9 million). A loss of EUR 6.4 million was declared, amounting to -6.6% of revenue (2012: loss of EUR 5.4 million, -4.5% of revenue). The consolidated net loss for the financial year was EUR 6.5 million, -6.6% of revenue (2012: EUR loss of 7.2 million, -6.0% of revenue).

Collector coin honouring coin collectors  

By decision of the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland will release a commemorative coin entitled ‘First Mark and Numismatics’ on 11 April. It is a homage to scholars and collectors of metal coins as well as commemorating the birth of Finland’s national currency. This is also the only Finnish gold coin to be struck in 2014.

Following a decision made by the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland will issue a collector coin in honour of Tove Jansson on 7 February. This is the second collector coin issued in celebration of Jansson – she was commemorated on her first collector coin in 2004. The only person, other than Jansson, to have had two collector coins minted in their honour is President Kekkonen.

Mint of Finland Group's Annual Report and Financial Statements for 2012 have been published

Mint of Finland Group had a challenging year which was influenced by the weak global market and overcapacity in the coin industry, as well as the slowdown in euro change over decision making. In addition, the company´s result was burdened by the significant non-recurring losses of the Argentina project. The Group's turnover and operating profit both decreased, 119 Me (137 Me) and -5.4 Me (2.6 Me), respectively.

Master author's commemorative coin launched at the World Money Fair

F.E. Sillanpää once more in august company


The first commemorative coin launched by the Mint of Finland in 2013 is dedicated to Nobel laureate F.E. Sillanpää. The coin is part of the Europa Star series of commemorative coins with annually changing themes. This year, the coins in the series will celebrate European authors. In addition to F.E. Sillanpää, writers such as James Joyce and José Saramago will receive their own coins.

Art competition for Winter War memorial launched


The Winter War Memorial Committee, formed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, will launch a two-stage art competition for proposals for the national Winter War memorial, to be erected in Kasarmitori in Helsinki.
