16 May 2017 A total of 2.5 million special two-euro coins are about to enter circulation: minting of commemorative Independent Finland 100 Years coins has begun at Mint of Finland
Today, Governor Erkki Liikanen of the Bank of Finland started the production of commemorative Independent Finland 100 Years coins at Mint of Finland. A total of 2.5 million special coins will be minted in honour of Finland’s century of independence. The special coins will be released into circulation on 1 June 2017.

The Collector Coin Committee of the centenary of Finland's independence, instituted by the Ministry of Finance, is holding a competition for the design of a collector coin to be released in 2018. The competition is organised to find a design for the Finland in 100 Years collector coin. The design eventually stamped on the collector coins will be chosen by the competition jury.

The Central Bank of Colombia has ordered two-hundred peso and one-thousand peso coins from Mint of Finland. Mint of Finland will mint 156 million two-hundred peso coins and 92 million one-thousand peso coins to Colombia. The coins will be delivered in the course of 2017.

In 2017, Finland will release a special two-euro coin celebrating the country's cen-tenary of independence. Mint of Finland and the Central Bank of Bolivia have reached a two year agreement for the manufacturing of Bs5 denomination circulation coins. The contract concerns the production and delivery of 88 Million pieces, and the deliveries will occur in 2017 and 2018. The Central Bank of Bolivia is a new customer to Mint of Finland.

The difficult situation with regard to competition and demand continues on the metal coin market. The business result of Mint of Finland Group remained negative. The company's performance nevertheless took a turn for the better in the second half of the year as demand picked up. In June 2015 it will have been 30 years since the European Council adopted the European Flag as its official emblem and 60 years since its adoption by the Council of Europe. To celebrate this, all 19 euro-area Member States will issue a commemorative circulation coin in the second half of 2015, bearing a common design on the national side.

On 30 January 2015, Mint of Finland plans to release a collector coin in honour of the 150th anniversary of composer Jean Sibelius' birth. Both coins will feature the same motif and were designed by Harri Koskinen, one of the most distinguished Finnish designers of our time. The images of the collector coin's design will be on display in the Design Museum.

On 27 May, by authorisation of the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland is releasing the coins of Karelia and Savonia as the first in a series of nine collector coins. The nominal value of a collector coin is five euros.

By decision of the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland today released a collector coin in honour of literacy. The Lukuinto theme year of diverse literacies, supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture, will be celebrated in Finland in the 2014–2015 academic year. The Literacy collector coin is the sixth coin to be released in the Ethical collector coins series.

A year of restructuring at Mint of Finland
The year 2013 was challenging for Mint of Finland. The weak world market and excess capacity in the circulation coin business undermined the company’s financial performance; Group revenue decreased to EUR 97.3 million (2012: EUR 118.9 million). A loss of EUR 6.4 million was declared, amounting to -6.6% of revenue (2012: loss of EUR 5.4 million, -4.5% of revenue). The consolidated net loss for the financial year was EUR 6.5 million, -6.6% of revenue (2012: EUR loss of 7.2 million, -6.0% of revenue).

Collector coin honouring coin collectors
By decision of the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland will release a commemorative coin entitled ‘First Mark and Numismatics’ on 11 April. It is a homage to scholars and collectors of metal coins as well as commemorating the birth of Finland’s national currency. This is also the only Finnish gold coin to be struck in 2014.

Mint of Finland Ltd is a company whose business is the manufacture of coins. Mint of Finland mints coins for Finland to the order of Ministry of Finance. Mint of Finland Ltd is owned by the Finnish state and the company aims, like all businesses, to generate profit. The price of coins minted for Finland is made up of variable costs: materials, labour, royalties paid to the state as well as of fixed costs such the distribution network’s (distributor network) costs and VAT.

Another collector coin is minted in honour of Tove Jansson
Following a decision made by the Ministry of Finance, Mint of Finland will issue a collector coin in honour of Tove Jansson on 7 February. This is the second collector coin issued in celebration of Jansson – she was commemorated on her first collector coin in 2004. The only person, other than Jansson, to have had two collector coins minted in their honour is President Kekkonen.

Coins minted by Mint of Finland enjoyed success at the international commemorative coin contest ‘Coin Constellation’ in Russia. More than 270 commemorative coins from thirty countries took part in the contest. The award ceremony of the seventh international commemorative coin contest was held in Moscow on 26 September.
